Getting started is not easy. After hunting for weeks, I have found all sorts of lists containing what “should” and “shouldn’t” be done. Some posts are 3 years old and even the non-informed can tell information is out of date. In 4 weeks of active google searching, here is the distilled action plan to get started for the next month.
Action Plan:
- Sign up for Free Code Camp (https://www.freecodecamp.com/) btw, I love their business model
- Take Marketing 101 course online (Numerous ones out there)
- Name Project/Blog (You are here my friends!)
- Secure Social Media registration for name
- Start a blog
- Convert theme into a mobile design
- Take WordPress training (I am starting here https://wpapprentice.com/ and www.youtube.com)
- Pass Hubspot Inbound Marketing Certification (https://academy.hubspot.com/certification )
- Take Google Analytic training
- Write posts…. and more posts (not to flood others but to get better at doing it)
- Install Google Analytic tracking codes
- Logo Design (not necessary for the first 30 days but I would really like it)
- Write articles for the blog/s (I will have this blog as a test case and a small business I also run on the side as a test case)
- Sign up for Facebook pages (https://www.facebook.com/narwalter come check it out)
- Promote with pages with Facebook advertising (keeping a minimum budget of 10-20 for the blogs for now)
- Implement the social media links on the blog
- Sign up for email marketing service (I have a bit of nervousness about this)
- Embed email signup forms on the blogs
- Email training for business use (https://academy.hubspot.com/certification Youtube to start?)
- Promote Facebook page through email marketing
- Sign-up for google Adsense and deploy advertising codes in the blog
- Promote the blog page via Adwords (trying low CPC)
- Addlive video content on Facebook and blog links
If you are counting you noticed we don’t have 30 separate items listed and some of them are completed. They are included to show what we ahve done as a whole picture. Optimistically, many posts online that state all of this can be done for 1 hour a day but I dont believe that. It seems to be wishful thinking on the authors part. An hour seems reasonable in writing but what happens when you have a full time job, the kids, and a second part time online business already? We will just have to see how it goes and mark it up what happens here.
Many points we haven’t touched yet. A list of things needing learned in the first months is long but cant get to them just yet. Here is a shortened version of where we will be going in the near future.
Future Planning:
- Content Marketing
- SEO Optimization
- Pair Search (PPC)
- Email Marketing
- Social Media Marketing
- Digital display marketing (Ads Ops)
- Web analytics and reporting
- Mobile Marketing
- Sign up with Klout (https://klout.com/home)
- Quicksprout training (https://www.quicksprout.com/)
- Hootsuite certificates (https://hootsuite.com/education)
This post will be updated when with links and references as I find them for future reference.
